Crazy Hunt in Argentina

This time, we have a very special group coming. We went to Cordoba airport to pick them up at 10.30 am. They asked me to pass by the lodge first so they could change their clothes and then leave straight to the field, so we did. The field we visited this time, we like calling it “El bajo” in Jesus Maria. This particular field is one of the best on this area, so when we have doves flying around it, we get very excited for our clients.

The “safety speech” is essential and one of the most important things I have to do as a guide. The first day of every group I take care of remembering the key points on this issue; like not to fire low shots under 45°; always carry the shotgun open and make sure that it is discharged every time a client leaves it, hand it over to an assistant or put it away in the soft case. For our company, safety is of such importance that we have copied on our website the security rules for access for all our clients.

After a couple of hours, they were done with the hunting so we took them to the camp to wait for lunch. A great Argentinian barbecue is always a great option!

This group was very happy to see the amount of doves we have in Cordoba, as well as the food on the grill! They kept asking David, the cook, for tips and tricks to step up their cooking game!

This first day was over and we dropped them at the lodge to enjoy some appetizers and drinks with the hostess.

On the second day, around 8:30, we were ready to leave the lodge and start our way to the field. Once we got there, we were welcomed by the whole field team, along with, shotguns, cartridges, camping equipment, set positions and everything ready for another day of dove hunting.

As soon as we get there, all the field assistants have their flashlights on, greet by name their clients and after a couple of jokes to break the ice, everyone goes to his shooting position. The field begins to fill with doves and in seconds I hear the first shot followed by a shout of “good shot Sir”. Now it’s time to check that every hunting position is working properly; if one of them is not having enough doves, we set another position in a better location. The “Beretta Úrika 2” shotguns and the “Fiocchi” cartridges work very well; our guests are very satisfied with both and luckily, there were only a couple of jams with one shotgun that was solved with some oil.

They hunted for 3 hours and decided to stop even though doves were crazy flying that day!

Lunch arrived around 11.45 and then the classic nap on the hammocks. For the afternoon session, they decided to do something new; field assistants competition!

They teamed up with them and started shooting. They were really amazed by the assistants! Of course, they spend a lot of time at the field so they really know how to shoot and follow doves, but for the clients this was unbelievable! This was also a great opportunity for the assistants to give some tips to each client so they can improve their shooting skills.

After picking up every hunter with our truck, we are ready to return to the lodge and have a round of beer. With such a busy day, my friends ask for a massage.

Once our guests are safe on the hands of our house staff, I say goodbye to everyone and leave the lodge to prepare everything for a new day.

I hope this has given you an idea of a typical hunting day in Cordoba and I really wish these words push you to come and visit us; and like Pablo always says “you should be the next one”!

We look forward having you soon!

Best,
