Big Group Dove Hunt

March has been a great month for all of us. We have received JJ Johnson back in Cordoba for the third time. He is a great friend and every time we go to Dallas, we stop in his house for a barbecue. He prepares really good tender loins and has great wines from Napa to share with us; we had a lot of fun a couple of times talking about our Argentine barbecues. Our friend JJ is very successful in his business and he has built his own company on commercial real estate, but he has not changed as he is a very low key person that takes good care of his friends.

Nine months ago, he called me and said: “Pablo, I need you to organize the best hunting trip for my sons and his friends; we will be a group of fathers and sons and we would like to show them the amazing Cordoba experience”.

The dove hunting experience in Cordoba is not only about doves, it is something more difficult to explain on a shooting report or a shooting review. Most of our guests always say: “it is impossible to explain people what is Cordoba dove hunt; and Pablo, you are always taking care of us; you have the best crew in the field and they all do their job with passion”. We scout and look for the doves days before our guests come, and we always have a plan for the 3 or 4 hunting days, what give us a lot of stability regarding dove volumes; but we have to be scouting and driving around always for a plan B, because we should be ready for unexpected.

During Johnny’s hunting days, we had an unpredictable storm coming from the south and we realized that in the morning on the way to the field. We were hunting in an amazing sorghum field of 358 acres and suddenly at lunch time we saw the sky getting grey and a cold breeze started to blow from the south. We could feel the temperature falling down and we could imagine the rain coming in the next 20 minutes. We requested all field assistants to have a quick meal and decided to go hunting just after lunch to shoot some birds before the rain joined us.

The rain was not that bad at that moment and luckily, roads were not muddy yet. We were not far from our Plan B but we had to be ready to make the decision in the right moment. Then, the wind started to blow harder and our tent started to move really bad although it was tied to the ground. We decided to put it down immediately (we had no option), and everybody helped to do it.

We were on a rush driving the two mini vans and the pick-up trucks through the sorghum field with the shooters when we saw the first drops on the windshield. I remember I thought: “this is not going to be easy” or something like: “it is going to be a thought evening”.

The guys jumped out of the mini vans, Parker ran to his spot to fire his shotgun, and Adam, Jeff, David and Elkin followed him. The wind was strong and the doves were flying on the air as “challenging rockets” to be shot down. Suddenly, the sky cleared again, the wind slowed down and millions of doves started to move around. We knew that evening, at the end of the day that our goal of an amazing hunting day was fully achieved. We had a great dove shooting evening and we ended it with 20 people on a big circle drinking beers and enjoying the unique sunset.

We have also shot some days on the hills, the volume was not as good as on the sorghum field, but we had high birds which are always a challenge and some low birds on the top of the hills. March 2014 has been a very rainy month and birds have water all around, so we did not hunted in water holes, but we did shot some in the field and feed lots. Martin, Federico, Lucas, Gallo and David did a great job and organized some amazing hunts. We enjoyed great barbecues and some special lambs on the grill with our well-known chef Federico.

One day we had a great speech on the field, just before lunch time, and Greg reminded all of us how important is to trust our values and care about our families. You can check it on our testimonials videos.

It is all about the experience. It is all about the people. It is all about having fun with our friends and shoot some birds. A dove hunting trip is a great idea to experience with the people you like to share time and drinks with. Imagine the feeling of some cigars in front of the fire pit after a great meal at the lodge, and drinking a Malbec red wine from Argentina before going to bed.

You should be the next one. We are ready any time, and we are passion about bird hunting and camaraderie. Come and enjoy our country and tell us some stories about your hunting days. We will be here.

My best

Pablo Aguilo
