Once In a Lifetime Thing

Patrick, Shawn, Travis and Troy visited us from Texas. It was their first time in Argentina. All of them were passionate hunters. I got to meet them on their second day in Argentina and they were absolutely amazed by the volume of birds. But I would say that when our hunters come, they of course come thinking about the wingshooting and little they imagine about all the other aspects that make this trip such a unique experience.

Patrick, Shawn, Travis and Troy wouldn’t stop talking about the food. And I would say, THE food. They were a fun, fun group.

On their second day, when I met them, I asked them about getting a thousand birds in a day and they were like, nah, we just want to take it easy and enjoy the experience. However, by the end of the trip, their guide told me some of they had made it to the thousand birds mark. Hahaha, maybe, they were not expecting it, it just happens! This is the place to go wingshooting.

You might think why? Why Cordoba? Read what Travis had to say:

-So you said you’re passionate about deer hunting, why are you dove hunting in Argentina then?

-Because we bought a hunt and it’s, for us, I don’t know him, but it’s a once in a lifetime trip so I figured, If you’re going to spend the money, you might as well do it right! I’ve been to Mexico, I’ve been to a lot of places in Texas hunting, as far as doves, strictly birds and by far this kills it all. By far…

-Really? In what aspects?

-Because you know, honestly, I take the blame on this today. If I was up when these guys were up, we go out to the field and if you want it to, let’s just say, 8 o’clock in the morning. Like, today I asked Santiago (Travis field assistant), If I wanted you to go and get another half case of shells, would you sit here and let me shoot until it got dark? And he said yes.

So my point being, here in Argentina you could start at 8 in the morning and you can end at dark and it’s nonstop shooting. So, going back to what we were talking about earlier, you have limits in the USA, Mexico. There’s and abundance of birds but in Mexico, but the field assistants would actually go and get the birds. Here, Santiago (Travis’ field assistant) is keeping my gun full, so I’m sitting there just bum bum bum bum all day. You can’t go all day in Mexico, it’s no way and in the States you don’t do it either cause you get in trouble, so. You know it’s the abundance and also being in another country. This is my first time being abroad, let’s say, I’ve been to Mexico many times but that’s still North America continent. I got my buddies here, so it’s a once in a lifetime thing.

-Can I ask you about your socks? (Travis was wearing these cool grey socks with ducks stamped on them, knee high plus cargo shorts)

-So, I like to be eccentric in a way, be different a little bit, so those are actually van socks and growing up there was this Nintendo duck hunt, a video game, and so back in the nineties I bought the socks and I got the shoes to go with them, they match. In the store I was with my girlfriend and I got them and I didn’t even know I was going to bring them, now they are perfect!

When I got dressed to go to the airport to come here, I looked like I was going to a football game. I was wearing all the football gear for my team, all RED. When we were in Huston, we were there two hours earlier and no one was staring. But when I got to Lima, Peru I was like, do I have a booger in my nose or what? Something’s going on, I mean literally, people would just sit there and stare at me, and if they were walking, they would literally look over their shoulder!

That night, some of the guys had massage at the lodge, others just complained at how sore their shoulders and arms were from the intense shooting. LOL They had pasta for dinner (amazing lasagna) but in their heads, they were still thinking about the asado they had had in the field. Someone fell asleep on the table that night…I’m not going to give away names here! But, just for you to know, wingshooting in Cordoba is INTENSE. Get ready for it!

You should be the next one!

*Thanks, a lot! to Travis for your time answering my questions!
